SEA LEGS DANCE
Sea Legs was founded by Tikiri Shapiro in a small coastal town in Delaware and has grown to perform in Seattle, Maryland, Delaware, Sri Lanka, India, and New York City before finding its home in Austin, TX in 2019.
As the name implies, Sea Legs embraces adaptability—the ability to find balance in new environments and navigate the ever-changing currents of contemporary life. Through narrative-driven performances and celebration of each dancer that shapes its work, Sea Legs aims to create a sense of connection and belonging with the audience. Rooted in themes of curiosity, hope, and humor, the group aims to create relatable performances that remind us we are often trying to find our sea legs as we move through life.
Sea Legs has presented work at Spark Dance Forum, the Amalgamate Artist Series, and The 10 Minute Set in New York City, and completed a two-week international tour of Sri Lanka, performing at multiple venues, including the Galle Literary Festival. Since relocating to Austin, Texas, the company has presented work at the Austin Dance Festival, Austin Community College, and Dance Carousel, while also producing eight full-length original productions.
